Me, a long time ago

Me, a long time ago

A little history
My love of animals began a long time ago, back when cameras used film.

I was lucky. Growing up, we always had pet cats, dogs and fish. I never got that horse I longed for, but the other pets kept me company.

Personal computers were just entering the market when I was in vet school, and it is fun to imagine how cool it would be with laptops and all of the online learning and social media tools available today.

My other blogs
I started writing for About.com Veterinary Medicine in December 1998 (then The Mining Company). It is my place to write about “serious” veterinary topics. I started my personal vet blog, AboutVetMed.com, in 2009 as a place to stretch out. It is where I post silly photos and stories of my cat Barnie, and dogs Sophie and Argos.

What am I doing here?
I am grateful to Anthony/K9Cuisine for the opportunity to write here. This blog is the bridge between my other two blogs. My topic here is “veterinary medicine,” which is pretty open (!), so all vet med topics are available. My plan is to focus on how veterinarians and other animal professionals use social media – Twitter, Facebook, etc. – to connect and share information with pet lovers.

Working together
Your participation is needed. I hope to hear from viewers and make this project as interactive as possible. Got questions? Stories? Photos? Share your thoughts using the comments link below. Thanks.

Excited to see Janet on another venue. It’s hard not to like this talented veterinarian!

Thanks, Heather. I am excited to be here. I hopeful that people will speak up about what they want to see/talk about. Nothing is set in stone and there are so many great vetmed-ish things to talk about. ;)

Heather – I agree! Janet is wonderful. We are all very excited to have her join our blog group.

Janet Tobiassen Crosby DVM never planned to be a writer. She wanted to be a veterinarian from the moment she learned such a job existed - sometime during the first grade, when she accompanied her mom to the vet with a sick cat. Janet "adopted" all the neighborhood cats, and at age 11 she started training her first dog, a newly adopted rescue Collie. At age 12, she joined a dog obedience 4-H club and was active through high school as a member and as a junior leader.
