BlogpawsIf you are a pet enthusiast on Twitter or Facebook, you have probably seen the word “blogpaws” come up. If you have no clue about what I am talking about, read on.

What is blogpaws?
Blogpaws is the first-of-its-kind networking event for pet people. The conference schedule is packed with fun and informative ways to learn more about blogging, social media, building web site traffic, advertising, networking and, perhaps most important of all, meeting the people we chat and blog with online.

Who should go to blogpaws?
Blogpaws is for pet lovers, bloggers, authors, pet-related businesses, adoption/rescue groups, PR and marketing people, pet professionals and veterinarians, too. In short, if you love pets, you should be here. And… they thought of everything – pets are welcome at blogpaws!

Who are the people behind blogpaws?
From the site: “BlogPaws is founded by three passionate and dedicated pet lovers and bloggers – Caroline Golon of Romeothecat.com and Yvonne Divita and Tom Collins of Scratchings and Sniffings and Windsor Media Enterprises.

And, full disclosure here, we also have a blogpaws planning committee, of which I am a member. As a planning committee perk, I have a special code, VIP-JTC that you can use when you register to save 20% on the registration fee! That’s cool.

We are also planning on a sweepstakes to include full air, hotel and registration to the event, so stay tuned to the BlogPaws Facebook page for more info.

Where is this event?
The first annual blogpaws event will be held in Columbus, Ohio. Host cities will rotate each year. Another plan in the works is live video from the event for those that can’t make it this year. We want everyone to feel included and a part of this landmark event.

Why am I going to blogpaws?
Good question, because despite how active I am on Twitter and Facebook, I am not that social, really. Yep, a wallflower. I have been writing at about.com for 11 years now, but it wasn’t until I joined Twitter and Facebook that I felt so… for lack of a better word, connected to other veterinarians and pet lovers everywhere. It’s time to meet up.

Through Twitter, I met DrV (@pawcurious), Dr. Hill (@VetLovingPetsHB), Caroline (@RomeoTheCat & blogpaws founder) and Anthony Holloway (@K9Cusine and ‘owner’ of this blog). These are all people who I know are going to blogpaws and I am excited to meet.

I convinced DrV that she needed to go to blogpaws, and -yay- she signed up. On top of that, she has agreed to be a speaker. Go DrV! See what she is up to on the blogpaws speaker list.

Live video? What happened to “What happens in Columbus stays in Columbus?” ;)

LOL DrV! Yes we had a planning meeting/conference call the other night. I voted that the webcam be situated right on your panelist table. heehee

We are actually still sorting out the details for how to bring “live” back to people online, but definitely planning on ways to share blogpaws with those who can’t make it to Columbus this year.

Janet Tobiassen Crosby DVM never planned to be a writer. She wanted to be a veterinarian from the moment she learned such a job existed - sometime during the first grade, when she accompanied her mom to the vet with a sick cat. Janet "adopted" all the neighborhood cats, and at age 11 she started training her first dog, a newly adopted rescue Collie. At age 12, she joined a dog obedience 4-H club and was active through high school as a member and as a junior leader.
