Biography

The pets outnumber the humans by 5-to-1on the 15-acre property Sharon Anne Waldrop shares with her husband and three youngest children (of which two are teens but will always be children to their mom, especially when they ask for lunch money). Her adult daughter, Amber, stayed in southern California when the family moved to Georgia in 2006, but brings her dog Chloe with her in the cabin of the plane when she comes to visit.

Six dogs, four cats, four horses, and an array of pets like chickens, pot-bellied pigs, ferrets, chinchillas, goats, and miniature donkeys never fail to give the family a good laugh by the end of the day. On a more solemn note, their late 21-year old cat, Ralph, is buried near the house under a set of wind chimes. When the breeze blows, memories of him fill the house.

Sharon is thrilled to blog about kids and dogs because both top the list of her passions. She and her family have rescued several premium blend (aka mixed breed) dogs and have two purebreds as well, a Pug and a Pom. Besides her love of kids and dogs, the subject comes more naturally to her compared to recent magazine assignments on topics like why it’s a good idea for private equity firms to consider purchasing businesses with Real Estate Investment Trusts, or 10 tips to spruce up kitchen cabinets (she has a complete inability to organize). Thankfully, Sharon has also written about what she knows best – parenting topics for Parents, Parenting, Pregnancy, and American Baby magazines. Finance and health topics are two of her other specialties and she has covered these areas for Good Housekeeping, Woman’s Day, Glamour, Health, Natural Health, Bankrate.com, CreditCards.com, and Mint.com. Writing about pets is fairly new to her and in the last year she has completed several assignments for a custom magazine published by Professional Veterinary Products. An article published in Pregnancy magazine last year about bringing a newborn baby home to the family dog is an all time favorite.
